How You Can Help Save Sea Turtles

  • Knock down sand castles: Flattening sand castles and filling in holes helps eliminate challenges baby turtles face on their way to the shoreline.

  • Turn out lights: Sea turtle hatchlings use the reflection of the moon to find their way to the ocean. Artificial light confuses them and directs them inland.

  • Dispose of trash properly: Large pieces of trash can create a barrier for sea turtles searching for a nesting site. Fishing lines and ropes often get entangled around their flippers.

  • Shop with reusable cloth bags: A hungry sea turtle can mistake a plastic bag for a jellyfish, which can cause serious harm.

  • Stay alert while boating: Avoid sea turtles while boating. Collision impacts and propellers can result in injury or death.
